Regulator care

Your regulators are one of your most important pieces of scuba diving equipment.

Learn how to clean and store your regulators: First stage, second stages, LPI, & Air Gauge.

  1. Fill a bucket

with fresh water. You can also add a little sanitizing liquid such as Simple Green. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions on ratios.

  2. Do not submerge

your first stage. Splash fresh water on it, but avoid dunking it.

  3. Rinse second stages

by swishing them underwater. DO NOT press the purge button underwater. Water could be sucked back into the first stage, damaging your regulator. You can also use a soft bristled brush, such as a tooth brush, to scrub the mouthpiece clean of build up.

  4. rotate flow knobs

underwater to keep them in great working condition. Do not forget turn them back to the setting you prefer to dive with!

  5. keep your lpi happy

and salt free by turning and pulling the quick disconnect port back and forth underwater to rid it of any salt or debris.

  6. swivel air gauges

If your pressure gauge can swivel, submerge it and give it a few spins underwater to keep it smooth.

  7. Store your regulator

somewhere dry and cool, away from direct sunlight. Consider investing in a regulator bag to protect your gear.

  8. Don’t be a stranger

Your regulator might get lonely if you abandon it for too long. Be a responsible scuba gear owner and dive often!
